Who Qualifies?
- ✅ South African citizen or permanent resident
- ✅ Aged 18 to 59 years old
- ✅ Have a disability that makes you unable to support yourself financially
- ✅ Disability confirmed by a medical doctor
- ✅ Pass the means test (same thresholds as Older Persons Grant)
Required Documents
- 📄 South African ID or Smart Card
- 📄 Medical report from a doctor confirming your disability
- 📄 Proof of income and assets
- 📄 Proof of residence
How to Apply
1 Get a medical certificate
Visit a doctor or clinic. Get a signed medical report confirming your disability on the official SASSA medical form (DHA-9).
2 Visit SASSA office
Go to your nearest SASSA office with all documents. You can bring a caregiver.
3 SASSA medical assessment
SASSA may arrange their own medical assessment to confirm your disability. This is free.
4 Receive decision by SMS or letter
Processing takes up to 30 days. SASSA will notify you of approval or decline.
