Who Qualifies?
- ✅ South African citizen or permanent resident
- ✅ Aged 60 years or older
- ✅ Income below R86,280/year (single) or R172,560/year (married)
- ✅ Assets below R1,227,600 (single) or R2,455,200 (married)
- ✅ Not living in a government-funded institution
What Documents Do You Need?

How to Apply
1 Visit your nearest SASSA office
Bring all your documents. A caregiver or family member can accompany you. Find offices at www.sassa.gov.za.
2 Fill in the application form
A SASSA official will assist you through the process. This is completely free of charge.
3 Receive your reference number
Keep your reference number safe. Use it to follow up on your application status.
4 Wait for approval
SASSA processes most applications within 30 days. They will contact you by SMS or letter.
