Option 1: Apply Online (SRD R370 Only)

1 Open srd.sassa.gov.za

Go to srd.sassa.gov.za on any phone or computer.

2 Click "Apply Now"

Find and click the green "Apply Now" button on the homepage.

3 Enter ID and phone number

Your 13-digit SA ID and the cell number you want SASSA to contact you on. Remember this number.

4 Enter your OTP

SASSA sends a 6-digit code to your phone via SMS. Enter it within 10 minutes or it expires.

5 Choose your payment method

Bank account, Post Office, or retail store (Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Boxer, Checkers).

6 Submit and wait

SASSA will decide within 3–10 business days and SMS you the outcome.

Option 2: Apply via WhatsApp

  1. Save 082 046 8553 to your contacts as "SASSA"
  2. Open WhatsApp and send "Hi" to this number
  3. Follow the chatbot steps — have your SA ID number ready

Option 3: Apply In Person (All Other Grants)

  1. Find your nearest SASSA office at www.sassa.gov.za
  2. Bring all required documents (ID, proof of residence, medical form if needed)
  3. Arrive early — offices open at 8am, queues start early
  4. Take a number and wait to be served — the service is completely free
