Community food support

1. Food Parcels & Community NGOs

Many local NGOs and community organisations provide free food parcels, especially in townships and informal settlements. Contact your local municipality or church to find food programmes near you.

2. Social Relief of Distress (SRD) — Emergency Grant

If you are facing an emergency (fire, flood, death of a breadwinner), SASSA offers the Social Relief of Distress grant — R630 for up to 3 months. Apply in person at your nearest SASSA office.

3. Government Employment Programmes

4. Registered Personal Loans

If you need emergency money and are waiting for your SASSA grant, you can apply for a small loan from a registered lender. Always use NCR-registered lenders only — avoid loan sharks. Check if a lender is registered at www.ncr.org.za.

⚠️ Warning: Never borrow money from loan sharks or people who offer loans outside formal channels. They charge very high interest and can be dangerous. Always use NCR-registered lenders.
